EasySMX VIP003S Gaming Headset Review

I’ve reviewed a few EasySMX budget gaming peripherals and the quality has been impressive given the low price tags of the items I’ve been reviewing.  The EasySMX Cool 2000 headphones may not have a design that suits my taste, but it was a good headset.  The EasySMX ESM-9101 controller was brilliant, and it has become my go-to gamepad for any gaming session because it is wireless, comfortable, and looks pretty slick with my gaming PC.

The VIP003S gaming headset is the third EasySMX product that they have provided us for review and if you’re looking for a TL;DR summary, it looks and sounds great and won’t break the bank.

In the box, you get the EasySMX VIP003S gaming headset, the detachable microphone, a user manual, after-sales service card and a one-to-two connection cable.

The headset itself looks and feels like a more premium option than the Cool 2000 headset and my main headset, the HyperX Cloud Stinger.  The metal frame and memory foam ear pads defy the budget price.  The buttons blend into the headset and the RGB looks a lot cooler than the Cool 2000’s offering.  This headset just looks smart.

Getting set up is easy; slot the detachable microphone into the headset then plug the one-to-two cable into the headset then the PC (the USB to activate the RGB is optional—I didn’t bother after testing that it worked, but it will suit some tastes).  That’s it—you’re good to go.

EasySMX claims that the VIP003S gaming headset delivers ‘best-in-class comfort’, which is a bold statement.  While I couldn’t possibly confirm or deny this without comparing it to a few hundred similar offerings, I can confirm that the headset is extremely comfortable.  The headset certainly has ergonomic properties; the frame and ear pads mean that it firmly holds onto the head without putting on too much pressure.  The headset remained comfortable even after (admittedly rare) 4-hour gaming sessions, with no tenderness after removing or the day after, as can be the case with some uncomfortable headsets.

The sound quality is better than it has any right to be at this price point, too.  The sound is clear and can be turned up beyond a comfortable level if you are inclined to do so.  There isn’t the depth to the bass that you would get from a headset four times the price, but that isn’t the point.  The VIP003S gaming headset exceeded my expectations.

The microphone is decent, too.  When playing online with friends they asked whether I was using a new microphone and remarked: “it doesn’t sound worse, it doesn’t sound better, but it’s fine.”  Hardly a glowing endorsement, but I doubt they want to hear me destroying a packet of Cheetos in complete clarity, anyway.  Being detachable, it means I’ve been able to use this headset when completing a few tasks around the house without looking like I’ve lost my mind and have been able to position it perfectly every time I have used it.

The noise-cancelling was superior to the EasySMX Cool 2000 and the HyperX Cloud Stinger headsets but falls behind more expensive headsets.  As I do 99% of my gaming in a dedicated room, this is a null point (through it suppresses any aggressive PC fan noises very well), however if you play in a noisy space you may wish to invest in a headset that cancels out most external noises, while also containing the audio of your gaming session.

BUY/WAIT/AVOID

As mentioned before, I am not a gamer who has to have the best of everything.  I have been using a HyperX Cloud Stinger headset, valued at about £30, and usually buy low-to-mid market options over premium items wherever it is sensible to do so.

The EasySMX VIP003S gaming headset will not compete with a £100-200 headset, but it was never intended to.  That isn’t a factor I will take into consideration when writing this review.  I am judging this headset purely on whether it provides value for money and whether I personally would buy it.

Yes, the VIP003S gaming headset provides excellent value for money and, yes, I would buy it if I were in the market for a budget gaming headset with a premium feel.

The headset is attractive (certainly compared to the EasySMX Cool 2000 and even the HyperX Cloud Stinger), has good sound quality and feels very comfortable.  For only marginally more than these two headsets, the VIP003S gaming headset provides a significant enough improvement to justify the slightly increased—but still low—price tag.  The only improvement that I wish this headset incorporated is I wish it was wireless, but for this price, I can hardly grumble.

I now use this headset daily, that’s how impressed I am with it.  If you’re in the market for a budget headset but want something that looks and feels more premium than some other affordable options, the EasySMX VIP003S gaming headset deserves some consideration.

VERDICT: BUY
