The Best Games for An Older Audience

The media and your parents would have you believe that gaming is something for children, something you will grow out of and something that holds you back from having a productive life. Those assumptions could not be further from the truth though, gaming isn’t something you simply grow out of when you turn 18.  We all know that there is no reason to be ashamed to play video games when you’re an adult.

In fact, once you’re earning your own money and have your own space, you’re more likely to turn to gaming as a distraction from the stresses and strains of daily life. If you are looking for some escapism through gaming, here is a list of some of the best adult-friendly games.

Poker

If there is one game that is completely exclusive to adults, then it is the classic card game poker. Texas Hold ‘Em the planet’s most popular variant originated in the United States two centuries ago and is now enjoyed the world over.

Poker also features in several video games, from Red Dead Redemption to Grand Theft Auto – it has never been easier to get your fix!

It can be enjoyed online just as easily as in a casino, but for the best experience, you should invest in a home poker table. That way you can have your friends around for a weekly tournament full of thrills, spills and hopefully, the odd win!

Call of Duty

Activision’s hit gaming series Call of Duty is technically an 18+ title, but unfortunately, you will find some underage rule-breakers in the multiplayer lobbies. That shouldn’t put you off playing the game though as it is arguably the best console title of the past decade.

The latest release Modern Warfare is a throwback to COD 4which was originally released in 2007. The latest update features a series of maps that were popular on the older game such as Talsik Backlot and Hovec Sawmill.

For casual gamers, there is the option of Warzone which is Activision’s own take on the Fortnite model. You can play a range of Battle Royale games as well as Plunder, looting and money collecting mode.

Call of Duty is available on PC, PS4, Xbox and mobile with the option to enable crossplay so you can fight against your mates no matter what platform they are on.

Football Manager

If you’re craving some more football action you could turn to EA Sports FIFA 20, but if you’re a gaming or a football purist that game simply won’t do.

For more detail and a better all-round gaming experience, you have to download Football Manager. It’s the game that will have you happily sat up to the wee small hours and enjoying every single minute.

Take charge of your local team and guide them from obscurity to the heady heights of global football. Control every minutia of club management from individual tactics to in-depth scouting of obscure South American leagues.

Football Manager isn’t designed specifically for adults, but because of the long-haul nature of the title you’ll be hard pushed to find anyone but football mad adults on the game’s online servers.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Despite being released two years ago, Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 is still arguably one of the best console games on the market.

The long-awaited successor to the original release did not disappoint fans with a huge and detailed interactive map. In the game’s story mode you will control outlaw Arthur Morgan as he attempts to restore the fortunes of his beleaguered gang.

On average it takes just over 60 hours to complete the story mode on this game, but you might want to double or even triple that if you’re planning on exploring everything the game has to offer.

Once you’ve finished the main story you can then transfer to the online mode of the game which has benefitted from Rockstar’s experience in launching GTA online back in 2013.

Destiny 2

If you’ve played Call of Duty and found yourself somewhat let down by the first-person shooter gameplay then Destiny 2 is for you. The latest release has built on all the aspects of the first game that made it such a hit with fans.

Destiny 2 is enjoyed by plenty of players around the world boasting 8.4 million users and a minimum of 270,000 gamers online at any one time, why not join them?
