It’s been over 4 years since the PT demo was released on PS4 and in the years that have followed, fans have tried to recreate the magic of Hideo Kojima’s collaboration with film director Guillermo Del Toro. Some have come close but missed vital parts of the formula, whether that be the ambience and atmosphere or just polish.
A new PC remake of PT created by Artur Łączkowski has emerged and it comes so darn close to capturing the soul of the original demo. The haunting, looping corridor isn’t a mirror image of Konami’s vaporware, but it feels like it could have come from the same development team.
We’ll never get to experience what PT could have become had Kojima sat at the helm throughout production, but with PT recreations becoming more and more professional, it may only be a matter of time before a talented developer creates a full project that acts as a window into what could have been.
In the meantime, Artur Łączkowski’s creation is as close as we’re going to get. It’s an exceptionally well-realised reimagining of the PT demo and is a must-play for those who missed out on the original demo.
