BY EMSA: As an adult gamer, it’s not every day that a game will get me excited to hop on my PC and waste weeks in another world. I’m usually realistic with my time, only picking up titles that I can comfortably complete in the limited time I have available. I certainly don’t spend my hard-earned money on pre-orders, choosing instead to wait for Steam sales or Humble Bundles.
But then CD Projekt Red come along and ruin everything with Cyberpunk 2077.
Unless you live under a rock, you will have heard about the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077, which is set to release in April 2020. The story-driven action-RPG is likely to consume months of my life as I explore its futuristic open-world, and it’s one of the few games that I can confidently say I’ll be picking up on day one. Budget and time constraints be damned.
I’m hyped for Cyberpunk 2077, and here are 5 reasons why YOU should be hyped for it too.
CD Projekt Red care about their games
This Polish development team are well known for producing gaming gems – especially The Witcher series, with titles winning various game of the year awards for its thrilling storyline and fluid gameplay.
It’s true that past successes can’t speak for future titles, but let’s just say that the devs wouldn’t let their fans down.
Character backstory
Players will step into the shoes of V, a cyberpunk new to Night City, who’s past you decide. Unlike the Witcher 3 where the protagonist’s story arc has been decided, you create V’s backstory before you head into the dark and dingy world.
Whether you had a successful career as a hacker or grew up scavenging for technology, your past has an impact on the overall storyline.
You make the decisions
Do you pull a Leeroy Jenkins and run in all guns blazing? Or do you sneak around the back and avoid combat all together? Whatever you choose, the decisions you make in Cybeprunk really do matter. Yep, that’s right, because you shot that guy earlier, you now have a bounty on your head (quick, reload your save!).
Cybernetic enhancements
Cyberpunk 2077 features a highly in-depth class system, including Techies, Netrunners and Solos, all of which have their own unique abilities and gear. However, all classes get access to some wild cybernetic enhancements which aid you in combat, such as aim assist built into your eyeballs. The cool part is that you can switch up enhancements and even create classes with a mix of abilities and perks from all 3 classes, so you don’t miss out.
I’m sorry, but if you don’t want to have a freaking samurai sword built into your arm then we can’t be friends.
Keanu Reeves! Need I say more?
They put Keanu in the game. If this doesn’t make you want to throw your money at the game, then I don’t know what will.
Now I’m not telling you to buy the game or treat yourself to a £250 collector’s edition, but just look at it as a reward for adulting so well!
